After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel for a sightseeing tour of the city of Santiago and see the Civic center, La Moeda Presidential Palace, the house of government that was originally built to coin money. In 1846 until 1958, President Manuel Bulnes had La Moneda fitted out at the private residence of Chile’s president. Now, the building has been renovated as a government palace, seat of the Presidency of the Republic. Afterwards, you will see the plaza Armas, an open space with open air markets. Continuing your tour, you will visit The Cathedral. It has three previous version erected on the same site, that have all fallen prey to fires or earthquakes. The fourth and present building was completed in 1775. You will pass the main post office, erect in 1882, and the pedestrian streets of Huerfanos and Ahumada, indisputably the social, commercial and functional axis of Santiago. Then, you will pass by the prestigious social Union Club, the National Library, Santa Lucia Hill. After breakfast, you’ll experience the legend of Rio, with a combination of tour visiting Christ the Redeemer on Corcovado Hill & Sugarloaf Mountain. You’ll be picked up to enjoy a panoramic tour of Rio’s beaches, Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon. Then, you will up Urca Hill Mountain until Sugar Loaf by cable car. From there, you will get a wonderful view of the city nestled between the mountains and the sea. After the morning tour, relax and enjoy lunch at a selected restaurant. Afterwards, you will be driven along Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon and arrive at the bottom of Corcovado hill where you will take the cog train through the luscious Tijuca Forest. It’s because it has the best Carnaval and also, the numerous Samba’ Schools. The most important event is Carnaval and each school’s parade may consist of about 3,000 performers or more, and the preparations, especially producing the many different costumes, provide work for thousands in Brazilian society. Brazil Falls The Iguassu (Brazilian side) National Park has an area of 185,000 hectares, arriving at the Visitor Centre, is entered by the Portal Access individually, where the capacity of the park is controlled. Then a coach leads to the beginning of the runways whose route is 1,200 meters path on the Iguazu River Canyon. This start of the route has a panoramic view of Argentine scenery for taking pictures. Advancing the tour, the Iguazu River canyon is observed, the Salto Rivadavia and Three Musketeers, among others. Towards the end of the tour up to the lower lookout Garganta del Diablo at this point it is about 200 meters away. This wonderful scenario is further enhanced by the ongoing formation of rainbows. After Breakfast, around 08:30am, our guide will bring you to the Argentinean Falls. The park was created in 1934 with the main aim is to protect the majestic Iguazu Falls. In 1984, UNESCO declared this place Natural World Heritage due to the beauty of the scenery and the biological diversity in this subtropical rain forest. The visit to the Iguazu National Park can be done via 3 circuits and on catwalks, best known as Lower Path, Higher path and the Devil´s Throat Path. The Lower Path is a 1,200-metre-walk (0.8 miles) that gives a great view of the majority of the rapids and falls from a front and lower point of view. The distances range from a bird’s eye point of view of The Devil’s Throat together with several Brazilian rapids, to spectacular close-ups to other falls. This walk has some high difficulty level due to the number of steps along the way. (Approximate duration: 2 hours). The Higher Path is a 1,300-metre-walk (0.9 miles) that will raise every visitor´s adrenaline level because of the vertigo of being at the edge of some waterfalls. This walk has breathtaking sceneries from a cliff-point outlook and this is the less effort demanding walk of the three traditional ones. No steps along the way. The Devil’s Throat has to be access via the Ecological Jungle Train, and everyone must get off at the stop named after this waterfall. From there, there is a stroll along the catwalk which is a winding path that goes around the islands for 1,100 meters (0.7 miles) and ends in the large balconies located on the edge of falls. After breakfast, you will be visiting one of the most famous markets in South America: ponchos, woods goods, jewelry and Indian handicrafts are sold there. This market is centered on ‘Poncho Plaza’. All day long, the whir of cotton candy machines, Andean pipe music and Quichua (the native language derived from the Incan language) drift across the square. A blinding maze of colored textiles spills from the square out across town, encompassing the area between Quito and Calderon and Bolivar. There, you can find everything from jumpers to armadillo shell guitars, wall hangings to ceramic fried eggs. On the stretch of Jaramillo between Quito and Quiroga, mothers and infants share the street with geese, puppies, pigeons and cuyes (guinea pig – a popular local food). Down on Quiroga between Jaramillo and 31st de October (in front of the Plaza de Toros), the ponchos and baby wear are supplanted by potted plants, skinned calf heads and bleating goat herds. The northern edge of the textile market is bounded by Calderon, where salesmen extolling the joy of Tupperware stand between stalls of snakeskin, herbal remedies and bars of magical soap used to ward off jealousy. After breakfast, your tour begins visiting Quito`s downtown, one of the biggest in South America. Our first point is the oldest street of the city, La Ronda that used to be the home of musicians, poets and politics back in time. Here you will discover the traditions of the city by stopping in the gastronomic capsule, and you will have an explanation of the different local spices that are used for the typical Ecuadorian gastronomy. Continuing your journey, you will visit the house of handicrafts made of metal and wood. Most of the furniture is made by hand. Afterwards, you are going to la Ronda and Independence Square. It is surrounded by important historical buildings. Also, you will visit the Cathedral (XVI Century), the Presidential Palace, El Sagrario Church (XVII Century), and La Compañia de Jesus (XVII Century), one of the most beautiful baroque churches in South America. Then, you will know the Church of San Francisco and Monastery, built a few months after the arrival of the Spaniards (XVI Century). Finally, our guide will drive to the viewpoint at the Panecillo hill, where is located the virgin of Quito. It is the unique winged virgin of the world. You will have a wonderful view over the city and the surrounding mountains and volcanos. Afterwards, you’ll be taken to 30 km north of Quito, towards the Middle of the World where the equatorial line divides the northern and southern hemispheres. You will visit the main monument built in honor of the French scientific expedition that arrived in Ecuador in the XVIII century to determine the correct location of the equator line. Here you will have the opportunity to visit the Ethnographic Museum, located inside the Equator Monument, which displays the main cultures of Ecuador or visit the Inti Ñan Museum, a scientific and cultural museum, located in the exact crossing of the Equator Line. These enormous and slow-moving reptiles are responsible for the island’s Name. These animals can weigh between 250 and 300 kg and can live up 150-200 years. Then, you will visit Pit Craters. It was created from the collapse of surface materials into chambers fissures underground. It’s a great place spot to spot Vermilion Flycatcher as you walk inside an endemic Scalesia Forest. After breakfast, you’ll discover a fascinating moonscape formed by different volcanic parasitic cones – lava bombs, spatter, and cinder cones. As you hike to the summit for impressive views of the surrounding islands, including the eroded tuff cone Pinnacle Rock. You’ll also encounter marine iguanas and lava lizards. Then, you’ll snorkel and see (perhaps swim with) Galapagos Penguins, sea turtles and White-tipped Reef Sharks among a great variety of colorful fish. The water there is generally clear, without too much surf and full of marine life. Due to its geographical location, the lack of vegetation is immediately noticeable. After breakfast, you will leave your hotel and take the route to Maras – Moray (northwest of Cuzco city). On the way you will pass through the magnificent green & browns colored fields and beautiful scenery of the Sacred Valley. A narrow and serpentine road through the mountains will drive us to this special place. On arrival at Misminay, an Andean community located 3.700m altitude; you’ll see a natural balcony where you can look at a splendid landscape and snowcapped mountains that surrounds the Sacred Valley. Here you will visit the old terraced salt-mines. It has more than 3000 pounds of salt. Here, they will show you the tools used by the Incas, which are the same they still use daily. You will see the different products that come from their fields and their produce. This brief seminar will provide you the possibility to learn more about the agriculture in this region of Peru. During the Weaving Seminar, the hostess will teach you the techniques used since many centuries ago by their ancestors. They are still using some traditional old tools as the “telar” made of wood and for coloring they use natural tints that come from roots and typical plants. You will have the opportunity to appreciate the works winding naturally-dyed wool into intricate designs, colors whose patterns and symbols date back to Inca time. After participating in one of these experimental sessions you will enjoy typical food made with fresh and natural ingredients prepared by the women and men of the community. In the afternoon, you will continue the trip to Moray, located just down of Misminay. Here you will see huge circular agricultural terraces built by the Incas in natural sinkholes on a limestone plateau overlooking the Urubamba valley. After breakfast, you will be transferred to the train station for an amazing train journey to the famous Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu, the great mountain-top city abandoned by the Inca Empire, reclaimed by the jungle and lost to humanity until its rediscovery in 1911. The legendary ‘Lost City’ is without a doubt one of the world’s most impressive archaeological sites. Built by the Incas on the summit of “Machu Picchu” (old peak), overlooking the deep canyon of the Urubamba river in a semi-tropical area of 120 Km from the city of Cusco at 3,400m. It sits on a mountain site of extraordinary beauty, in the middle of a tropical mountain forest; Machu Picchu was probably the most amazing urban creation of the Inca Empire at its height, with its giant walls, terraces and ramps, which appear as though they have been cut naturally in the continuous rock escarpments. Machu Picchu is also one of the Inca’s best kept secrets, as they did not leave written records and Spanish chronicles make no mention of the citadel, it remains a mystery. Along the way you will enjoy the changing landscape as you travel from Andean highlands to the beginnings of the jungle (“eyebrow of the jungle”), before finally arriving at the town of Aguas Calientes. From here, you will board the bus that will take you on a 20 minute ride up to the citadel of Machu Picchu. In the morning, you will climb up the Archeological Park of Sacsayhuaman. Your excursion starts visiting the fortress with the same name, a beautiful place that radiates peace and quiet, where we will be able to admire the huge rocks measuring up to 4 meters high that were used in its construction. After, you will head for Q’enqo, and ancient temple of the Puma, where you will be able to appreciate an altar for sacrifices in the inner part of a huge rock, and then Tambomachay, sacred fountains of life and health. Continuing your tour, you will see a panoramic view from Puca Pucara, at watchtower with controlled entrance to the city. Then, you will visit the Temple of the Sun “The Korikancha”, on top of which the Saint Dominique Convent. A legend tells that this temple was entirely lined in gold sheets that marveled the Conquistadors upon their arrival. In the end of your tour, you will visit the Main Square and the Cathedral that reassures invaluable colonial paintings and other works of art such as the Cross that arrived with the first conquistadors. After Breakfast, you will be met at your hotel in Cuzco and be transferred to the railway station in Cuzco for your onward train trip. From Cuzco the train heads south-east Oropesa, an early-rising community whose forty-seven bakeries have provide Cuzco with its daily bread for generation, Lake Muina, the Vilcanota River at Huambutio as it plunges sharply into its gorge before widening into the great Urubamba canyon. Later at Rumicolca, you will know the great stone gateway that guarded the southern approach to Cuzco. Also, you will see the church at Andahualillas, one of the jewels in Cuzco’s colonial crown, boasting a magnificent series of murals and superb colonial-era paintings and the Urcos Lake and surrounding village. Continuing the tour, you will travel through the villages of Cusipata and Checacupe (at 99km), both home to ore-Colombian and colonial treasures, and see the great temple of Viracocha at Raqchi, a homage to the creator God and probably the largest roofed building ever built by Incas. The journey is broken by a scenic stop at La Raya, at 4321 meters above sea level. This is the highest point on the journey, a cold, remote place that’s surrounding snow-draped peaks shrouded by mist or fine rain visible. Continue southward until arriving at Puno. After breakfast, you will have an unforgettable motorboat excursion on the waters of Lake Titicaca to the unique “Floating Islands” of the Uros. The inhabitants of the lake as known as the Water Tribe have built their own islands adding new layers of a vegetable fiber of the Papyrus family called “Totora” (scientific Scirpus totora), which is unique to the area. You will continue the tour until Taquile Island. There, you will find the inhabited by Quechua-speaking natives who have developed efficient and unique social systems, as well as fine hand weaving techniques, passed down through the generations. Then, you’ll walk around the Witches Market to get acquainted of the mystical rituals and indigenous cosmos vision and see the enormous handicraft market. Continuing the tour we will visit San Francisco Church, the historical heritage around the main square of La Paz “Plaza Murillo”. After, you will walk around the Legislative Palace, the Government Palace and the Cathedral. There you will have a breathtaking view of La Paz at Killi Killi lookout. Later on, we will lead you to Miraflores district to see the Open Air Museum about the Tiwanaku Culture.
