The structural calculation, which allowed the realization of impressive free-span, was carried out by engineer Joaquim Cardoso. The Itamaraty Palace was conceived as a building that would serve the purpose of presenting Brazil to foreign visitors and, therefore, it was built only with national materials and its halls only house works of Brazilian born or naturalized artists – such as Athos Bulcão, Alfredo Volpi, Bruno Giorgi , Frans Krajcberg, Franz Weissmann, Maria Martins, Mary Vieira, Iberê Camargo, Ione Saldanha, Rubem Valentim, Sérgio de Camargo and Tomie Ohtake.
